Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are medium to high strength medical grade topical treatments that remove the surface layers of the skin from a superficial to medium depth of the dermis. In doing so, peels can stimulate cell turnover and help restore a more youthful appearance to the skin.  The peels are prepared at varying concentrations and those chosen as part of the services at DermiCo can only be applied by a trained therapist or nurse, under the supervision of a medical professional.
Jesner and Trichloracetic Acid Peels
Trichloracetic Acid Peels (TCA) are specifically designed for mature and moderate to severely sun damaged skins. At DermiCo, we provide TCA peels at varying strengths depending on the degree of skin damage and desired result.  The peel targets and removes the damaged skin cells that cause the skin to look dull, aged and wrinkled. Its stimulates new collagen and elastin in the lower layers of the skin to promote a more youthful younger appearance.

Jessner Peels contain salicylic acid which is a BHA, (Beta Hydroxy acid). This ingredient is attracted to the oil and sebum in the skin. It has the ability to reach the pilosebaceous unit removing unwanted dirt and oil from our skin. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which is why this makes a great treatment for acne/oily skins.

Intense Pulse Light

IPL is an Intense Pulse Light that is attracted to specific chromophores such as Melanin, the pigment in your skin and hair shaft and Haemoglobin, the pigment in blood cells.  It is this feature that enables the treatment of surface blood vessels and sun spots.  IPL can also be used for hair reduction of darker hairs in all areas of the face and body. There is no downtime and results can be seen after one to two sessions.

Skin Needling
Skin Needling creates micro channels into the lower layers of the skin with a hand held needle-like device (a Dermapen) to induce a wound healing response. The healing process stimulates the production of growth factors and hormones that bind to other cells and alter their function. This inflammatory response results cellular proliferation and an increase in new collagen, elastin and our natural moisturising factors. The micro-punctures also increase the absorption of topical cosmeceuticals such as vitamins, hyaluronic acid and topical medications deep into the dermis.  These beneficial effects help regenerate your skin and provide a fresher appearance for longer. Skin Needling will give optimum results without the down time.   Skin needling is used in Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP), an advanced technique in skin rejuvenation.  For more information on PRP click here.

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a mechanical form of exfoliation that is designed to gently resurface the upper layers of epidermis, the most superficial layer of skin. It is usually performed on the face, chest, neck, arms or hands as an adjunct treatment to the above dermal therapies.  The treatment removes dead, unorganised keratinocytes (skin cells) stimulating cell renewal turnover. It also reduces sebum production and pore size. Used in conjunction with an advanced dermal therapy, it aids in the removal of dead skin cells and skin renewal.  It is recommended to have microdermabrasion two weeks after a peel or PRP.

The Procedures
Dermal therapies are therapies that have variable results, depending on the procedure, however they have the following in common

  • The treatments are superficial to medium depth
  • The procedure takes approximately 40 minutes
  • For higher strength chemical peels your skin will have the appearance of mild sunburn for 2-3 days followed by mild to significant skin shedding for up to 5 days
  • For most treatments, a minimum course of 3 sessions is required for optimal results.
  • Side effects may include: moderate redness, swelling, stinging, itchy, tenderness, dry or flaking skin.
