The Ageing Face

By recognising the signs of ageing and managing them early, you can maintain a youthful and natural appearance, as well as avoid the need for surgery for years to come. DermiCo can show you how.....

In your 20's
While your skin may look great in your early 20's, late nights, sun exposure and parties may result in the first signs of ageing by the end of this decade. This is a good time to start looking at where the lines are beginning to appear and the general quality of your skin. High quality skin care products are ideal to reverse sun damage, repair skin and slow the ageing process. Choose products with retin A, vitamin C and E, as well as hydroxyacids. Wear a sunscreen (SPF 30) every day, and re-apply every few hours in summer. Anti-wrinkle injections can be commenced as a preventative measure in your mid- late 20's, depending on your skin type. Fillers can be used for those who have deep nasolabial folds or for lip enhancement.

In your 30's
Juggling family and work responsibilities leaves little time for self-care. Wrinkles around the eyes, frown and forehead deepen and skin quality worsens. Tissue is lost in the tear troughs and nasolabial folds. Pigmentation, broken capillaries and fine lines may begin to appear. This is the ideal time to start cosmetic injections. They will help manage the signs of ageing as they appear, helping you look younger without obvious change.

In your 40's
During this decade estrogen and human growth hormone levels begin to decline. This results in a period of accelerated ageing that can be quite dramatic. The brow droops, frown lines and tear troughs deepen, making you look tired and angry. The jowls and corners of the mouth droop, making your look sad. Skin care products are no longer sufficient and if you haven't commenced cosmetic injections, then there's no time waste. Regular anti-wrinkle injections and meticulous use of skin care products will help you look fresher and better for your age. In order to look younger, volume must be restored with a cosmetic dermal filler.

50's and over

In most cases, menopause has well and truly taken it's toll by now. If you haven't yet commenced cosmetic injections, do not despair. New techniques can restore volume and improve facial tone without surgery. The liqud facelift uses anti-wrinkle injections to lift the jawline, neck and brow. Fillers are used to restore volume to the jowls, cheeks, lips, tear troughs, nasolabial folds and temples. The procedure is extensive and the cost can be high, however the results are dramatic and last up to18 months. See Cosmetic Photos.
