The Ageing Body

Theories of Ageing
Ageing is a process that results in the decline of cellular division and bodily functions. The decline in cellular division is attributed to the shortening of telomeres, a section of DNA at the end of the chromosome. Inflammation, oxidation and hormonal decline are believed to contribute to shortening of telemores and therefore can accelerate internal and external age-related processes such as; organ damage, poor skin and muscle tone, cellulite, broken capillaries, skin pigmentation, wrinkles, hair loss, varicose veins and weight gain. Anti-Ageing Medicine aims to treat these signs by preventing or reducing inflammation, oxidation and hormonal decline. In doing so, it can also treat many common illnesses and delay the ageing process. While DermiCo does not endorse the use of hormonal supplementation, we do incorporate many of the natural interventions based on the principles of Anti-Ageing Medicine in order to provide optimal Anti-Ageing Programs for our patients.

Successful Ageing
Successful ageing is difficult to define as it is an invididual and subjective process. Most people aspire to living an active life, free from illness and disbility, well into old age. How we age is largely determined by lifestyle choices. Smoking, UV exposure, poor diet, inactivity and stress contribute to illness and ageing by causing, amoungst other things, inflammation, oxidation and hormonal imbalances. Neutralising these processes is essential for successful ageing.

How DermiCo Can Help

The DermiCo Anti-Ageing Prescription is a booklet that discusses these theories in further detail and provides relevant and current anti-ageing information. It was written to help people make appropriate lifestyle, dietary and exercise choices in order to age successfully.

The DermiCo anti-Ageing Program uses specific principles from the Anti-Ageing Medicine model of care to reverse or reduce the processes that contribute to ageing. For more information see The DermiCo Anti-Ageing Program.
